Election rescheduled for Oct. 4 Voters who were afraid they might miss out on the Sept. 6 party primaries because of Hurricane Gustav got a reprieve last week.
Secretary of State Jay Dardenne delayed the Sept. 6 primary one month until Oct. 4.
That means voters wanting to cast ballots for U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander or his Republican challenger Andy Clack will go to the polls in October.
Early voting in that race was also rescheduled to Sept. 20 through 27th, with early voting available at the parish courthouse from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. those days.
Dardenne spokesman Jacques Berry called the rescheduled election a "slight wrinkle" but said it wasn't anything the state couldn't handle.
One recurring question: how the state would filter out the 43 voters who cast mail-in ballots in the Sept. 6 primary but plan to vote in person in October.
Those voters will be eligible to vote at the polls but that portion of the ballot reserved for the congressional race will not be accessible to them, Berry said.
"There are more than 1,100 different ballot styles statewide in October," Berry said. "This is just one of them." |
