Hammons urges residents to contact FEMA Winnsboro Mayor Jack Hammons issued a press release Friday urging all residents affected by the flooding to contact the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The following is his statement:
"It is important that you take photos and record your flood losses. Notify your private insurer even if you do not have flood insurance. It is possible that some loss could still be covered on your home or auto due to flood. Do this as soon as possible.
Until President Bush declares Franklin Parish a federal disaster area, we are not eligible to receive any type of disaster aid from FEMA. However, you should still register with FEMA as soon as possible to file for losses by calling 1-800-621-3362. You can also register online at www.fema.gov. Have as much information in hand as you can when applying to speed the process. And maintain all receipts connected to your flood loss.
If approved for aid, FEMA will not cover total losses on your home but could possibly give some financial assistance. They will not buy groceries but may give extra food stamps in some cases.
This is all the information that we have at this time, but rest assured that we are staying in touch with proper officials in an effort to get assistance." |
