Landon Wylynn Sproles Abbitt
Funeral services for Landon Wylynn Sproles Abbitt, 29, of Gilbert will be held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ron Ferrington officiating.
Interment will follow at Ogden Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Ms. Abbitt was born Aug. 28, 1979 in Delhi, and passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008. She was a resident of Gilbert, a student preparing to be a surgical nurse, a loving mother and homemaker, and a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, T.J. "Buddy" and Margret Sproles; great-grandparents: J.T. and Myrtle Fortenberry, Mr. and Mrs. Kennison; cousins, Dub Reynolds and Shane Fortenberry, and uncle Charles E. Fortenberry.
Survivors include her father, Bill Sproles, Winnsboro; mother, Connie Wylynn (Milton) Franks, Gilbert; step-father, Jimmy Ellerbe, Gilbert; two daughters: Desiree Wylynn Abbitt and Serenity Marie Abbitt, both of Gilbert; grandparents: Wyatt and Dixie Marie Milton, Winnsboro; sister, Cressie Desiree Meyer, Dallas, Texas; and a host of aunts, uncles, niece and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Chad Hatton, Joe Michael Hatton, Shawn Fortenberry, Chris Fortenberry, Colby Joe Fortenberry, and Ethan Charles Bertolino.
Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Moore and Derrick Milton.
The family will receive friends at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008.

Douglas Ray Creel
Douglas Ray Creel, Placerville, Calif., March, 31, 1937-Aug. 24, 2008. Airman, husband, father and friend, passed away quietly and with dignity in his sleep.
Born the second son of a Louisiana share cropper, he traveled the world in the service of his country and fellow man. He was a 37 year veteran of the United States Air Force, a decorated Air Commando, with 17 Air Medals for service in Viet Nam as a flight engineer on C-123 (Provider) aircraft.
He continued his world travels on the C-118 (Liftmaster) in Wiesbaden Germany during the Mid-1960's, putting him in the company of diplomats, chancellors, and a future president of the United States, flying Special Air Missions (SMA). He was a member of SAM 33273 which flew around-the-world in 16 days; to this date he is the only member of his family known to have done that.
He left active service in 1971, but soon joined the Air Force Reserve to pursue his greatest service as member of the 307th Red Horse Squadron at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana. As the Superintendent of Airfields and Project Officer he traveled extensively throughout Central America and the Caribbean building schools, water wells, and hospitals as an ambassador of the United States improving the quality of life for those he served.
In 1996 he retired as a Senior Master Sergeant but continued his service as a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars culminating as the State Commander for Nevada in 2002-2003. He was a hard working advocate of veteran's rights and benefits. He had only two loves in his lifetime. First was Jeannine (Butch), wife of 34 years and mother of his three children. Second was Beverly-Jo who stood beside him for 15 years and was at his side when he died.
Doug was preceded in death by Jeannine in 1991, his brother Cecil in 1999, and his sister Katherine Bixler in 1976.
He is survived by his wife Beverly-Jo; sons Anthony (Jo Ann) and Bruce; daughter Nora Cantrell (Randy Hewitt fiancee); five grandchildren, Jason, Scott, Brandon, Clay-Michael and Reece; sisters, Thelma Livingston, Victorine Smith, and Joyce Black; nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
His memorial service and interment, with full military honors, will be held on September 6, 2008 at 1 p.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Haughton, Louisiana.

William 'Cooter' Barfield
Services for Mr. William "Cooter" Barfield, age 89, of Winnsboro, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday (today), Sept. 3, 2008 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro with Bro. Cory Bruce officiating. Interment will be in Myrtle Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mr. Barfield was a member of Temple Baptist Church, loved working on anything mechanical and was a life-long automobile mechanic.
Survivors include his daughter: Belvie Keene of Winnsboro; granddaughters: Donna Kaye Beavers and husband, Curt of Winnsboro, Angie Slaughter and husband, Ricky of Winnsboro, great-grandchildren: Andy, Michael, and Whitney Slaughter and Nikki Breedlove; step-grandchildren: Curtis and Christen Beavers and Ben Beavers.
Pallbearers will be Andy Slaughter, Michael Slaughter, Curt Beavers, Clark Smith, Allen Butler, and Bootsie Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be W. A. Butler Sr., Clyde Robinson, and Robert Lee Gwin.
Visitation will be from 12 Noon till time of service on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008 at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Winnsboro.

Dora Belle McMurray
Funeral services for Dora Belle McMurray, 79, of Winnsboro, were held at Sardis Baptist Church on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008 with Rev. Leon Ward and Rev. Wayne Stroud officiating. The graveside service followed at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery officiated by Rev. Leon Ward, under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. McMurray was born Feb. 4, 1929 in Baskin, and passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 at her Winnsboro residence surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of the Sardis Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbern McMurray; father, Joseph A. Jackson; mother, Mae Olla (Brown) Jackson; two sons-in-law: Billy Dupuy and Ronnie Rhymes.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mildred Dupuy of Winnsboro, Patsy Dupuy and husband Freddie of Winnsboro, Diana (Rhymes) Smith and husband Billy of Winnsboro, son, Eric McMurray and wife Susan of Winnsboro;two sisters: Lula Derrick and husband Charles of Winnsboro, Rosa Mahoney of Gilbert; seven grandchildren: Bethany Scott and husband Kelvin of Crowville, Jonathan Dupuy, Alan Dupuy and wife Dorothy, John Dupuy and wife Laura, Chris Rhymes, Zack Smith, and Alyssa McMurray; three great-grandchildren: Sean Scott, Cameran Scott, and Dakota Dupuy; special pet, Angel; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and church family.
Pallbearers were Kelvin Scott, Sean Scott, Alan Dupuy, John Dupuy, Christopher Rhymes, and Zach Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were Jessie Rawles, Charles Derick, Cameran Scott, Alyssa McMurray, and Dakota Dupuy.

Alton 'Sonny' Wilson
Funeral services for Alton "Sonny" Wilson, 66, of Gilbert, were held at Eureka Baptist Church on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008 with Rev. Bobby Arnold and Rev. Jeff Robinson officiating. Interment followed at Eureka Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mr. Wilson was born Feb. 5, 1942 in Gilbert, and passed away Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008 at his residence in Gilbert. He was a member of the Eureka Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alton Prentiss Wilson; mother, Muriel (Johnson) Wilson; brother, Rayford Ralph Wilson.
Survivors include his wife, Katie (Parker) Wilson of Gilbert; two daughters, Wanda Wilson Grant of Jonesville; and Dixie Wilson Veuleman of Winnsboro; two sisters, Sherry Wilson Lawson and Kathleen Marquez; four grandsons; two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jewel Armstrong Sr., Charlie Armstrong, Eldon Armstrong, Larry Armstrong, Larry Westberry, and W. H. Sanders.
Honorary Pallbearers were Jessie Armstrong, Jeffery Armstrong, Jewel Armstrong Jr., and Joshua Thompson.

Joshua 'Bubba' Thompson
Funeral services for Joshua "Bubba" Thompson, 23, of Winnsboro will be held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ron Ferrington officiating.
Interment will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mr. Thompson was born March 1, 1985 in Columbia, and passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008. He was a resident of Winnsboro, a welder and construction worker, and a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles Veuleman Sr.; step brother, Kelly Rushing; and father, Jeffrey Thompson.
Survivors include his mother, Linda Gayle Veuleman; step father, Johnny Rushing; daughter, Caroline Grace Sykes of Texas; brother, Trenton Gage, sister, Brooke Rushing, grandmother, Shirley Veuleman, special cousin Christopher Veuleman, all of Winnsboro; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Veuleman, Kevin McClelland, Brandon McClelland, Coty Veuleman, Daniel Bryant and Jeff Winters.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Veuleman, Mitchell Buxton, Charles Veuleman Jr. and James Ray Wollerson.

Tina M. White
Funeral services for Tina M. White, 30, of Winnsboro will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Cuba Baptist Church, Winnsboro, with the Rev. Eddie McFarland officiating.
Burial will follow at State Place Cemetery in Gilbert, under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home, Winnsboro.
Miss White died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008 at St. Francis Medical Center.
Survivors include her mother, Harriett Cooper, Winnsboro; father, Andrew Wilhite, Dallas, Texas; step-father, Johnny Cooper, Winnsboro; sisters: ShaMia Addison and Donna Bel Allen, both of Winnsboro; LaDedra Griffin, Rayville; Beverly Jackson, Kansas City, Mo.; brothers: Aaron White, Andrew White, Paul Cooper and Gregory Cooper, all of Winnsboro, and Travis Cooper of Dallas, Texas; grandmothers: Rosie L. White and Ora Lee Cooper, both of Winnsboro; Rosie Lee Owens, Dallas, Texas; grandfather, Herbert Cooper, Winnsboro.
