Farmers salute Sept. 4
by Hope Young - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The 10th annual "Salute to Franklin Parish Farmers" will be Thursday, Sept. 4 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Winnsboro First Baptist Church gym.

La. Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Mike Strain will attend the event and be available to discuss ag concerns and answer questions.

Farmers and their spouses are invited to enjoy the evening with complementary tickets. Tickets for non-farmers are $10 each.

The menu includes fried Louisiana farm-raised catfish with all the trimmings. Special entertainment will be the folk band, "Back Porch." There will be many doorprizes and the first bale of cotton for 2008 will be auctioned.

Craig Gill, chairman of the event for the Winnsboro-Franklin Chamber of Commerce, which is hosting the evening, said, "We've done this for 10 years as a 'thank-you' to our farmers for all they do for our economy and community. Franklin Parish has a heritage of farming and that's something we need to celebrate."

To reserve tickets, call the chamber of commerce office at 435-4488 by Friday, Aug. 29. The dress is casual.

The event is sponsored by the Franklin Parish Farm Bureau. Co-sponsors are Entergy, Franklin Cotton Warehouse, Franklin State Bank and Trust Co., Helena Farm Chemicals and Scott Tractor Co. of Rayville.
