High school start delayed until Monday

Due to construction at the Franklin Parish High School campus, classes will not begin until Monday, Aug. 25. All other parish schools will open as scheduled today.

"The classrooms are ready," said Dr. Lanny Johnson, school board superintendent.
"It's a matter of moving cabinets and furniture back into the rooms and we weren't sure if we could get it done by Wednesday," he said.

Johnson said the work to the buildings and campus is about 50 percent complete, which includes a new technology wing.

"The bus ramp is complete with sidewalks in place," said Johnson and everything else should be ready for the students on Monday."

Despite construction delays at Franklin Parish High, it will be business as usual at schools across the parish.

Classes are scheduled to begin Wednesday morning at elementary and junior highs throughout Frank-lin Parish.

Baskin School assistant principal Madge Wilson said it will be business as usual at the school, as teachers and students return to the classroom to begin the new year.

"It's looking good. We've got a number of new students we're registering. I think we're going to have a full house."

Baskin School has added a number of new faculty and Wilson said the young, energetic new teachers are looking forward to getting down to work.

"We'll have open house Thursday afternoon for our parents to come and meet the teachers from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.," Wilson said.

Amid a flurry of last minute preparations, Wilson said the school was almost ready for students.
"We're still trying to get books in the right place, but we're getting ready real fast," Wilson said.
