Infant found on hwy. 4

The Winnsboro Police Department is still investigating the discovery of an infant in a carseat on an area road early Tuesday morning.

Winnsboro Chief of Police Lester Thomas would not release the names of the infant's parents, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Thomas said officers received a call about an infant discovered in the east bound lane of Hwy. 4. Officers found the infant in good condition, however the baby was taken to Franklin Medical Center to be examined. The child was released to the custody of its parents later that morning.

Thomas said the police department is working with the state Office of Children's Services in the investigation.

"We don't know much yet, we are still gathering information on the incident," Thomas said.
