Story Archives: Rain threat may postpone Patriots scrimmages

Rain threat may postpone Patriots scrimmages
by Hope Young - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Franklin Parish High School Patriots Head Coach Barry Sebren says he's looking forward to pitting his team against players from Rayville and Ouachita Parish high schools in scrimmage action planned for Thursday in Rayville - that is if the weather cooperates.

"Right now we're going to play Thursday, but it depends on this rain. We might move it to Friday or Saturday," Sebren said today.

During the scrimmages Sebren plans to put his team's strategies on the field and "really break it down, play by play."

Facing Rayville and Ouachita in non-regulation games with limited plays and no special teams will give the Patriots an opportunity to fine-tune the players' interaction with each other on the field.

After losing nine seniors last year, Sebren is looking to his older players to guide the younger ones.

"Travis Sims is one of our leaders and we're looking for him to step up," Sebren said of the defensive end.

Sebren took advantage of cooler temps late Friday for a 9:30 p.m. inter-squad scrimmage where he said, "We got what we wanted out of it."

Between 58 and 65 players are dressing out in this the second week of afternoon practice.

"We had a great first week of practice, it could not have been better," Sebren said.
