Story Archives: Stars to shine at Hot August Night

Stars to shine at Hot August Night

As unique as Winnsboro itself will be the original artwork featured in a special auction at Winnsboro Main Street's gala Hot August Night on Saturday, August 23.

Seventeen local artists have dedicated hours into putting their inspired designs on large metal stars for "A Star for Main Street." The stars are ready to hang and are certain to en-hance any setting.

"We just thought the stars might be a nice change this year, and offer a new venue for our artists, some of whom are chosen based on their work in the past, some of whom come to us with a great idea that we know would fit in well with what we're trying to do," said Main Street Manager Kay LaFrance-Knight.

"The tin stars, which have become popular interior design items, really lend themselves to imaginative designs, some beautiful, some zany, wild and crazy, but our hope is that people will see them as unique works of art that have been created for a great cause. Anyone who bids on them will be a true 'star' for Winnsboro Main Street!"

Proceeds from the auction will go toward the many events and activities sponsored year-round by Winnsboro Main Street. Auctioneer for the event will be Main Street friend and "auctioneer extraordinaire" Mitch Reynolds.

Star artists include; Margaret Ellerman; Sheila Jones, "That's Life;" Ernie Augurson; Ali Arm-strong; Shelby Kiper, "Big Star;" Debbie Neal, "Stars and Stripes Forever;" Dana Veach, "Stardust;" Barbara Gremillion, "Starry, Starry, Night;" Joanne Boutwell; Kay LaFrance-Knight, "Rock Star;" Kelsey Fletcher, "Main Street;" Bailey Martin, "So Many Paces, So Little Time;" Diane Carter and Linda Kimball, "Cowboy Prayer;" Jennifer Bough-ton, "Old Glory;" employees of Family Life and Home Health, "Gridiron Star" and "Baby Girl Star;" and Karl Broussard, "Pet Bed."

Along with the stars, other items up for bid will be a hand-painted LSU wooden porch swing painted by Heather Jemeson, an original iron fountain created by Judge Jimbo Stephens, an oil painting of a tiger by Debbie Neal and a wine stand painted and decorated by Sheila Jones, entitled "Don't Wine About It."

Hot August Night will be at the home of Rep. and Mrs. Noble Ellington on Hwy. 15 south of Winnsboro. Local cooks will serve a spectacular array of entrees, hors d'oeuvres and desserts. Also on the menu will be a selection of cool adult beverages and refreshing drinks.

Musical entertainment will be "The Chill," an exciting band from Vicksburg. "The Chill's" sound is described as "classic rock and roll, Motown and variety dance music."

Tickets are available by calling the Main Street office at 435-3781.
