The Franklin Academy Lady Cougars fast pitch softball team began its 2008 season picking up six wins and no losses.

The Lady Cougars trounced Riverfield Academy, 16-1, in its home opener on July 25.

Ariel Gill and Katy Little led the offense going three for three while Emily Collins and Little combined for a two-hit shut out.

Franklin traveled to Greenville, Miss., on Saturday for a double header against Greenville Academy.

The Lady Cougars won the opener, 9-1. The Cougars' bats remained hot, knocking out 11 hits. Adrienne Hebert led the attack going three for four with two RBIs. Little picked up the win, limiting Greenville to only one hit by striking out 13.

The second game of the double header was more of the same as the Lady Cougars picked up their third win of the season, 90. Emily Collins tossed a two-hit shut out to gain the win. Savannah Ship-man led the Lady Cou-gars' attack, knocking out three hits and scoring two runs.

Monday, July 28 the Lady Cougars hosted Prairie View Academy in a double header.

Little pitched a two-hit shut out as Franklin won by a score of 5 to 0. Collins, Hebert and Mallory Welch each had two hits to lead the offense. Franklin picked up its second double header sweep with a close 3 to 2 win over Prairie View in the second game.

Franklin scored the winning run in the last inning on an RBI single by Beth Padgett. Collins earned the win holding Prairie View to only three hits and one earned run.

The last game of the week saw the Lady Cougars taking on Silliman Institute from Clinton, La.

Franklin picked up its sixth win of the season by a score of 6 to 1. Gill and Sarah Haring each had two hits to lead the nine-hit attack.

The Silliman offense was limited to only one run on one hit.

The Lady Cougars will travel to Liberty, Miss., Aug. 9 to play in the Amite tournament.

Franklin is a member of the Mississippi Private School Association, which plays girl's fast pitch softball in the fall.
