Story Archives: Franklin Academy planning fall schedule

Franklin Academy planning fall schedule
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Franklin Academy headmaster Phil Jackson said he will know within the next three weeks whether the Cougars will have a home football game with West Memphis Christian School on Aug. 29 or not.

The contest was not assigned by the Mississippi Private School Association Football Commitee and thus will not affect West Memphis' wild card standings. West Memphis is undecided on whether they will play the game.

The MPSA is expected to make a ruling on the contest next month.

"We will not know anything until then," Jackson said. "We were talking with Silliman in case that game is cancelled, but it may be too late to schedule a game with them now."

The West Memphis game is scheduled to be the home opener for the Cougars, who will be led by newly-hired head football coach Keith Tincknell.

Franklin kicks off its season at Greenville Christian on Aug. 22.

Franklin hosts Cenla Christian on Sept. 5, followed by an away game at Tallulah.

The Cougars travel to Wilkinson County Christian Academy for a district game in Woodville, Ms., on Sept. 19.

Franklin hosts Huntington on Sept. 26 before welcoming double-A Prairie View on Oct. 3.

Glenbrook visits Franklin on Oct. 10, followed by road games at Claiborne and Riverdale.

Franklin closes out its regular season at home against Porter's Chapel on Oct. 31.,

Tincknell coached at Eastside High in Covington, Ga.,. last year. In 2006, he was head coach at Oak Forest Academy in Amite.

"We think we will be better this year, but time will tell," Jackson said.
