Posted 5/20/08 Donald Wayne Ezell Funeral services for Donald Wayne Ezell, 70, of Gilbert will be held at Calvary Baptist Church today (Wednesday) May 21, 2008 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Bobby Ensminger and the Rev. Gerald Hood officiating. Interment will follow at Oakley Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Mr. Ezell was born Sept. 21, 1937 in Gilbert, and passed away Monday, May 19, 2008 at Franklin Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of Gilbert and a farmer. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher and a deacon. Don Ezell also served his country in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his father, W.L. Ezell; daughter, Donna Ezell; and brother, Billy Ezell. Survivors include his wife, Lucy Mae (Russell) Ezell, Gilbert; mother, Maudie (Arnold) Ezell, Gilbert; two sons, Terry Wayne Ezell, Monroe, and Tracy Don Ezell, Gilbert; brother, Lee Ezell, Gilbert; four sisters: Gay Hall, Columbia; Nancy Burthorn, Summer Duck, Va.; Ann Hilbun and Flo Ferrington, both of Wisner; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Wayne Lowe, George Johnson, Carey Ellerbe, Keith Ferrington, Mark Ezell, and James Freeman. Honorary pallbearers will be R.V. Shirley Ann Creel Funeral services for Shirley Ann Creel, 50, of Meridian, Miss., were held Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the Bethany Worship Center in Crowville with Rev. Ron Charrier officiating. Interment followed at Coax Cemetery in Winnsboro. Services were under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mrs. Creel was born Feb. 28, 1958 to Paul and Ollie Walker Canady in Winnsboro and she passed from this life on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Rush Hospital in Meridian. She was preceded in death by her son: Paul Bradley Cockrel; and her grandson: Paden Thomson. Survivors include her husband: C.W Creel of Meridian; four children: Scott Newton of Crowville; Krystal Miracle, John Cockran, David Cockran, of Vicksburg; mother: Jean Gray of Winnfield; father: Paul Canady of Winnsboro; brother: Sam Canady of Winnsboro; four sisters: Betty Blount; Sandra Renner; Amy McManus of Lake Charles; Paula Jenkins; two grandchildren. Bessie Lee Edwards Funeral services for Bessie Lee Edwards, 87, of Gilbert were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, May 19, 2008 with the Rev. Virgil Harris officiating. Interment followed at South Central Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home. Mrs. Edwards was born Feb. 8, 1921 in Franklinton, La., and passed away Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Winn Parish Medical Center in Winnfield. She was a resident of Gilbert, a homemaker, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Gilbert. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Wallace Edwards; father, Major Barber; mother, Lillie (O'Brien) Barber. Survivors include a son, William "Buddy" Edwards, Wisner; three daughters, Bertha Beaube, Jigger; Odene Shirley and Carolyn Blakeslee, both of Winnfield; sister, Mary Anderson, Franklinton; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren;and six great-great-grandchildren. Dell D. Johns Funeral services for Dell D. Johns, 84, of Gilbert, were held Friday, May 16, 2008 the Kendrick's Ferry Pentecostal Church near Wisner, with Rev. Bruce Lofton and Rev. Virgil Harris officiating. Burial followed in South Central Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Mrs. Johns was born to the union of her parents Charles and Ella Parker Calvit on Dec. 28, 1923 in Gilbert, and passed from this life on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. She was a member of Kendrick's Ferry Pentecostal Church. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband: Robert Johns Jr.; son: Delmes Johns. She is survived by her son: Philip Johns of Gilbert; two brothers: J. W. Calvit of Gilbert, and Johnnie Kimball of Ferriday; one sister: Viola Elkins of Winnsboro; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Emma Jean Coronado Funeral services for Emma Jean Coronado, 66, of Baskin were held Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at the Baskin Baptist Church with Rev. Marion Spence and Rev. John Albright officiating. Interment followed at Gwin Cemetery in Mangham, under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mrs. Coronado was born April 4, 1942 in Crowville to Johnny and Pearl Temple Kimbrough and she passed from this life on May 17, 2008. She was a member of the Baskin Baptist Church, and she enjoyed needle pointing. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Avis Mayo and Catherine Doctors; one brother: Travis "Buddy" Welch. Survivors include her husband: Tommy Coronado of Baskin; three children: Angie Kane of Ruston; Kendra Phillips of Monroe; Lori Cheek of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister: Clara Ann Driggers; two grandchildren: Michael and Rusty Phillips; many nieces and nephews. Mickey Civilla Thornton Services for Mrs. Mickey Civilla Thornton, age 68, of Winnsboro, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2008 in the Chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro with Rev. Tommy Basco officiating. Interment followed in New Zion Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro. Mrs. Thornton was a member of New Zion Baptist Church, a member of the Eastern Star and taught four-year-olds at Temple Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husband, Billy Thornton; granddaughter, Amie Lee Ann Thornton; daughter-in-law, Gaydene Thornton; and brothers, Jimmy and Tommy Wilson. Survivors include two sons: Donald Thornton and wife, Cindy of Winnsboro; Ronald Thornton and wife, Rhonda of Winnsboro; grandson: Jeffery Thornton; granddaughters: Jessalyn Thornton, Jakki Thornton, Savannah Thornton, Brittney Thornton, and MeLaina Thornton; great-grandchildren: Adam Thornton, Lexie Thornton, and Natalie Roberts. Mr. Smith was born July 06, 1916 in Winnfield, LA and passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Richardson Medical Center in Rayville. He was a resident of Mangham, a farmer, and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Mangham. He was preceded in death by his father-William Smith; his mother, Felicity (Dunn) Smith; son, Dougles Smith; seven brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Hazel (Evans) Smith of Mangham; daughters: Frances (Smith) Metcalf and Peggy (Smith) Wallace, both of Mangham; sons: Kenneth Smith of Mangham; and Jerry Smith of Buffalo, Mo; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
