Wilson takes first in talent competition
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Our very own Lainey Wilson from Franklin Parish gave it her all at the 6th Annual Honkey Tonk Talent Search and took first place with one of her original songs, "Country Girls Rule.". Lainey competed against a total of 42 participants of various ages.

The prizes awarded were a gold guitar trophy, money, an automatic entry in the 2008 Country Colgate Showdown and the awesome opportunity to sing in a concert at the Doug Pederson Celebrity Event. There, Lainey greeted celebrities such as Phil Morris, actor from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Korean Robinson from the Green Bay Packers; Brian Thompson, actor from The Terminators as well as others. The night concluded with a silent auction and an amazing firework display. Lainey also had the opportunity to meet the judges from the competition who are very talented Nashville singer/songwriters, Galen Griffin, Don Sampson, and Jeremy Campbell.

Next spring, Lainey will relinquish her guitar trophy to the next Honkey Tonk Talent Winner. The talent search is organized by ARCO, a community resource organization that aides babies, children, and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.

This summer, Lainey will be traveling to Nashville to compete in the CMA Music Festivalís Music City Rising Star Competition.
