WHS Wildcats of 1958 reunite for 50th

Winnsboro High School's graduating class of 1958 celebrated their 50th anniversary at Temple Baptist Church in Winnsboro on April 26.

Twenty-three members of the graduating class of 1947 were also in attendance at the reunion held at Temple Baptist Church.

The graduates, along with former members of the class, schoolmates, friends and family, met at a reception on the afternoon of the 26th, before ending the day with a dinner at the church.

The 23 graduates now live in five states with Jerrie Gill Merivine of Collinsville, Ill., traveling the longest distance to attend the reunion.

Other alumni in attendance were Nike Poulos Anderson of Monroe, Sandra Beach Chappell of Grayson, Geraldine Vines Crain of Winnsboro, Alice Reagan Crawford of Winnsboro, James Fife of Buna, Texas, Loretta Smith Gwin of Monroe, William D. "Lefty" Hassell of Winnsboro, Joyce Hawthorne Heath of Winnsboro, Jerry Jones of Denham Springs, Lucy Albritton Lawrence of West Monroe, Maybelle Lilly of Denton, Texas, Bob McMurray of Winnsboro, Jerry Meredith of Fayetteville, AR, Betty Waller Montgomery of Monroe, Phillip Montgomery of West Monroe, Marileon Gravelle Peterson of Orange, Texas, Johnnie Watson Renfrow of Denham Springs, La, James Robinson of Edwards, MS, Margaret Eleanor Vines Rush of Crowville, La., Carolyn Smith Thompson of San Antonio, Texas, Lola Tarver Tillman of West Monroe, and Bob Wooley of Boyce, La.

Also attending were several former members of the class who moved out of town before graduation or graduated with earlier or later classes were Don Armstrong of Winnsboro, Lavada Smith Armstrong of Winnsboro, Charlie Gwin of Monroe, James Mercer of Crowville, Virginia Wiggins Moore of Rayville, Maxine Boyles North of Winnsboro, Jerry Renfrow of Denham Springs, and Marlin Valentine of Winnsboro.

Mrs. Lukey Robinson of Winnsboro, who was a business teacher at Winnsboro High and taught many of the graduates, also attended the reunion.

Co-chairpersons of the reunion were Nike Poulos Anderson and Loretta Smith Gwin.

Deceased members of the class are JoAnn Ezell Batey, Tucson Dunn, John Caleb Etheridge, Mackie Ray Gaulden, Delmis Johns, James Singer, and Frederick Swift.

Class members who were unable to attend were Linda McCain Armstrong, John Brand, Merrilyn Johnston Burnett, Shelby Crawford, Kathryn Davis, Drew Hatfield Dunn, Mary Ann Givens Hatfield, Hazel Thomas Hays, Beverly Jones, JoAnne Jenkins Kavanaugh, Donald Newton, Geraldine Reeves, Jerry Renfrow, Ed Rodgers, Sherman Ann Smith, Ruthie Spear, James Talbert, Carolyn Townsend, Yvonne Weems, Patsy Jean Williams and Sharie Winborne.
